SIERRA NEGRA & CHICO VOLCANO

Full Day:

ISABELA – SIERRA NEGRA VOLCANO

• Sierra Negra volcano has the second largest volcano caldera in the world, spanning 10km in diameter! Sierra Negra remains active, and although you won’t see lava flows, you will be able to see thermal vents where hot gases escape the volcano. Hiking the rim of an active volcano on alien landscapes is truly a unique and special experience.
• We pick you up at your hotel at approximately 7:30am and drive 45 minutes the base of the volcano where we begin to hike.
• We walk 1 hour to the caldera crater, and awe in the unique beauty. We continue the hike for another 2 hours toward Chico volcano, where the landscape changes from green vegetation, to desolate dark lava fields and cacti, where thermal vents can be seen along the way.
• After we reach the top and marvel at the beautiful views where two other volcanoes can also be spotted on a clear day, we make our way back and enjoy a boxed lunch under the shade in a seated area.
• The entire hike takes approximately 5 hours, it can get hot being exposed in the sun, but it is not a lot of uphill hiking and a moderate fitness level is sufficient to enjoy the hike comfortably.
• Transport will then take you back to your hotel and we will get back at around 2pm, where you have the rest of the afternoon to enjoy Isabela Island.
